React becomes incredibly powerful when coupled with a real-time backend like Firebase. See how easy it is to bring the two together and chat with Star Wars characters while you're at it.

How about security? It looks like everybody can manipulate Firebase data with e.g. Web Developer tool.

Firebase security is an entirely different lesson. Firebase has advanced security functionality that's not covered in this lesson.

Thanks for the great video Kent. I am looking at extending your tutorial and add in the ability to edit an existing message rather than always pushing a new one in. I have looked at update in the docs https://www.firebase.com/docs/web/api/firebase/update.html but im not sure the best way to handle this with reactfire? Are you able to point me in the right direction please?

Hi Aaron,
Super sorry I haven't gotten back to you in so long. Did you figure out your issue?
Also, if I understand correctly, things have changed a bit with ReactFire: https://www.firebase.com/blog/2015-07-15-reactfire-0-5-0.html

Thanks Kent. I had something going using the update link I posted earlier but this blog post looks like it will provide a better way to use this using react fire!
