We will implement the delete shop in our Nextjs application. When the user selects the delete button for a shop in the shop's list, it will execute the `DeleteShopAndProducts` mutation and delete the shop and all associated products.

Each shop will need to have products added to it by the vendor. To do this we'll need to dynamically create pages based on which shop we want to add to. Next.js has dynamically routing that we will utilize here. We'll set the shop id as the dynamic portion of the route and display a new product form. 

Here we will create that product form component and use Apollo `useMutation` like we did before to take in the form data. You'll notice a new keyword in our mutation query `connect` which we can use because we have a `@relation` set between products and shop. This connect will associate the product to the shop through the id that we grab from the route.

Next.js is a minimalistic framework for server-rendered React applications.

To make an authenticated request, we will need to get logged in users auth tokens from Auth0. Auth0 exposes a `getAccessToken` function that we can use in Next.js `getServerSideProps` to fetch the user token. It's important to note that this function can only be used server side. We'll pass that token into the page we need to send authed requests.

To enable Apollo Client to set the headers we'll extend the client so that allows us to pass in auth tokens and sets the client context. We will then destructure the client from our `useMutation` hook and set the context to include the user token.

We are ready to create new shops for our vendors. To do this we'll define a `CreateShop` mutation that will take in all the data that our form provides. Then `useMutation` will accept that mutation and give us a function to pass our data into as well as give us the new created shop data. We'll pass in user information that we get from Auth0. 

This lesson finishes up with an error because Fauna doesn't know if the request came from an authenticated user or not. We'll solve this with dynamic headers in the next lesson.

Now that Apollo Client is set up and ready to be used, we can finally query data from Fauna to use in our application. 

We'll go to the Fauna GraphiQL playground and copy the `findShopById` query that we ran previously. This query will be passed into Apollo's `useQuery` hook.

To build out our Shop products page on the frontend we will need data coming in from the database. To do that we need to connect Fauna to Next.js. We'll do this through Apollo Client because it will give us a lot right out of the box.

To connect our database we'll configure Apollo Client with `httpLink` and `authLink`. On the Fauna side of things we'll create a role and key for Read permissions (just Read for now) and grab the graphql endpoint to supply as environment variables for Next.js.

We are going to start visualizing what our data looks like by using graphcms' Playground. Here we can query our data and explore our content API right from the dashboard. 

We are going to use Next.js getStaticProps to query our data at compile time so we don't have to make the browser wait for that request when it's getting loaded.

Then fetching the entire comment collection is wasteful. It's also not compatible with any pagination features that don't return the entire collection.

It's easy enough to use GraphQL to query an array of posts from a database. But if you try to include the author of each post, you can run into scaling issues where the server makes an additional request for each and every post.

Detect Scaling Issues When Loading Data In a GraphQL API

Apollo, by default, does not assume what a given query might return. Anytime you invoke a query that wasn't invoked before, or it has been invoked, but not with the same variables, Apollo always asks the backend for the results. In some cases, however, we know that a given query can re-use a specific object or list of objects already in the cache.

We're going to complete our note selection example by adding reactive variables to the mix. These can be created via Apollo's "makeVar()" utility. Same as normal variables, they can be instantiated, read, and updated. The difference is that if we return them from "read" field policies, whenever they get updated, they'll signal to Apollo that that particular field has changed, and it should re-render the components.

In previous lessons, we've looked at defining "merge" field policies, that tell Apollo how new items should be written to the cache. In this lesson, we'll look at "read" field policies, and how they can be useful for putting local client-only state in our Apollo cache, that our components can then query as if they were querying the server.

If you help Apollo correctly identify objects, by asking the server for their ID, it will normalise them at the root of the cache. This ensures that instead of duplicating data, all queries and all the other entities just reference that single normalised instance. The more normalised entities and references to those entities you have, the more you'll notice components correctly reflecting updates when mutation are made.

Cursor's `Cmd+K` is fantastic for targeted code edits, but sometimes you need the AI to operate beyond the confines of your current selection—like extracting a piece of logic into a brand-new, top-level function. Standard `Cmd+K` often falls short, keeping changes localized. This lesson reveals how to overcome this limitation using Cursor's "Edit Full File" mode, turning complex refactoring of legacy code into a streamlined process.

Planning complex application logic or workflows before coding can be challenging.     *   **Node/Actor/State Labels:** **Use quotes (`"..."`)** for labels, especially if they contain spaces, punctuation, special characters, or Mermaid keywords. This is the most common source of rendering errors.
        *   *Good:* `A["User Input"] --> B["Validate Data"];`
        *   *Bad (potential error):* `A[User Input] --> B[Validate Data];`
    *   **Arrows:** Use standard arrow types (`-->`, `---`, `==>`, `->>`, etc.).
    *   **Comments:** Use `%%` for comments if needed.

4.  **Mindmap Specifics for GitHub:**
    *   GitHub **supports the basic `mindmap` structure**, using indentation to define hierarchy (parent/child relationships).
    *   Ensure each node/item is on its **own line** with correct indentation relative to its parent.
    *   GitHub **DOES NOT support** experimental or advanced `mindmap` features like `::icon()` syntax. Using icons **will cause rendering errors**.
    *   Stick to plain text nodes for mind maps intended for GitHub Markdown.

6.  **Let GitHub Handle the Styling:**
    *   **DO NOT** try to set themes (e.g., `%%{init: {'theme': 'dark'}}%%`) or apply custom styling using `classDef` or `style` *within the Mermaid code*.
    *   GitHub **ignores** these theme directives and applies its own styling based on whether the user is viewing GitHub in light, dark, or dimmed mode. Your diagram will automatically adapt. Trying to force colors or themes will likely just be ignored or look out of place.

7.  **Keep Diagrams Focused:**
    *   Avoid overly complex diagrams with excessive nodes, edges, or nesting in a single block. While GitHub *can* render complex ones, they might become hard to read or hit rendering limits. Break down very complex ideas into multiple simpler diagrams if possible.

8.  **Test in GitHub Preview:**
    *   Always use GitHub's preview tab when editing your Markdown file to see exactly how the diagram will render. This is the best way to catch syntax errors or unexpected layout issues.

9.  **Tooling & Edit Verification Note:**
    *   Automated code editing tools may sometimes struggle to apply changes correctly within Mermaid blocks, especially with complex syntax involving indentation or specific formatting (like the mindmap example above).
    *   **Always carefully review edits** made to Mermaid blocks by automated tools. If errors persist or the diagram doesn't render as expected, manual correction might be necessary.

**In short:** Write standard, clearly quoted Mermaid syntax using common diagram types. For mindmaps in GitHub, use only the basic indentation structure (no icons). Prefer `graph TD`. Avoid trying to control the theme/colors yourself. Use the GitHub preview, and double-check automated edits to Mermaid blocks.

The biggest splash was probably GPT-4.1 hitting the streets, but there's plenty more action around MCP, Vercel's v0, Google's developer tools, and interesting community discussions. I've spent some time with GPT-4.1 already (specifically in Cursor), and while it shows promise, it didn't quite convince me to switch from Gemini 2.5 Pro yet. It stumbled on a few basic requests where Gemini usually shines on the first attempt.

I haven't had a chance to dive into this yet, but it's right at the top of my list. It's interesting to see different perspectives, though!

* **Cloudflare Corner:**

This is huge news, in my opinion. Think about all the WordPress sites and other applications that rely on containerization.
