In this course, Mark Barton will show you how to use Socket.io to facilitate bi-directional client-server communication and notifications using Vue on the frontend. Socket.io is a JS library that connects a client-side library to a node.js server. Vue (pronounced /vjuː/, like view) is a progressive framework for building user interfaces. Unlike other monolithic frameworks, Vue is designed from the ground up to be incrementally adoptable. Build a REST API with Express 5 and node 14

While this course is for IBM Domino Developers who are looking to utilize Node.js alongside their applications, or Javascript developers looking to integrate with a Domino server. There are quite a few tips and tricks you can learn for integrating Node.js as a proxy server for any REST API you might want to communicate with your JavaScript Application.

We cover how you can continue to use cookies provided by IBM Domino for user authentication and authorization while accessing a Node.js / Express based application, including modifying the standard login form to expose authentication errors.  

We show how to store user level information inside a JWT giving the option to store functional levels of access safely.  This stateless token can then be decoded server side to list what user roles a user has and therefore can restrict functionality without having to refer back to Domino each time.

The course will demonstrate Create, Read, Update and Delete methods using the Domino Data Services all via the NodeJS application but still maintaining Domino security.

And finally, we show how you can reuse Domino generated HTML inside a handlebars template by scraping and manipulating the HTML.

Integrate IBM Domino with Node.js

JSON Web Token (JWT) is a low overhead option for authentication that is easy to implement and scales with your application. There is no need to store session data as everything you need is stored in an encoded string sent in the JWT, significantly reducing database overhead for your servers.

Getting Started with Express.js

The Edge is one of the most exciting new topics in web development. At the front of the pack is Cloudflare, whose network boasts servers located in hundreds of cities all over the world instead of in regions like "East" or "West".

More servers in more locations mean a faster experience for your users.

But what about the data part of the equation?

If the application you're working on skews more toward "reading" rather than "writing" data, Cloudflare Workers KV is a perfect fit.

Once you create a KV namespace— the "KV" stands for "key-value"— Cloudflare keeps track of your application data. The most commonly accessed data will be propagated around the world to the various Edge servers, while less popular data will be stored in more central locations.

Kristian Freeman has produced courses that introduce how to build and deploy sites and JSON APIs powered by Cloudflare Workers.

Today, he will show you how Workers KV can be integrated into a Cloudflare Workers project through building a Todo App.

Before you groan about a bland Todo App, think about it this way: 

The Todo App is the perfect example of the CRUD operations. Cloudflare KV has its own nuances for reading and writing data through a concept called Binding that is easier to grok when you understand the larger example as a whole.

As the course progresses, Kristian shares examples of how you can store more complex key-values, along with data operations like editing and filtering.

One of the coolest features that Cloudflare KV allows for is user-specific data that is tied to the IP address the request originates from. In other words, you'll be able to share your deployed Todo app with anyone around the world, and they will only see their personal items.

Build Data-Driven Applications on the Edge with Workers and Workers KV

Learn how to create dynamic front ends using both Cloudflare Pages and Cloudflare Workers.

Deploy Dynamic Frontend Applications with Cloudflare Pages

In this lesson you will learn how to support data modification by handling HTTP verbs besides GET. We will look at how to edit, save, and delete content with `.put` and `.delete`.

Streams are a big part of Node's famous non-blocking I/O, and Express lets you take full advantage of them. This lesson demonstrates how to integrate streams into your server to improve performance and simplify your code. 

We will look at `.creatReadStream`, `.createWriteStream`, and `.pipe`  to read and write from streams.

Sometimes you just need to serve existing files. In this lesson we'll examine how to use functionality built into Express to do just that.

As your application grows, it's easy to end up with a long list of route handlers and helper functions. In this lesson we'll look at strategies for keeping things organized and manageable.

We will move individual subpaths into their own file by using `.router` to create an instance of the Express router.

High availability apps require that no distinction be made between local and remote services. Attached resources should be accessed by environment variables, and in doing so allow you to swap out one attached resource for another. 

In this lesson we will setup a reverse proxy that directs image path requests and routes them through a defined server URL. By doing so, we decouple server requests for images which allows for easy switching from locally-served image assets to a CDN by simply updating an environment variable.
