Prisma is an open-source ORM. It consists of the following parts: 

- Prisma Client: Auto-generated and type-safe query builder
- Prisma Migrate: Migration system
- Prisma Studio: GUI to view and edit data in your database

Prisma Client can be used in any Node.js or TypeScript backend application (including serverless applications and microservices). This can be a REST API, a GraphQL API, a gRPC API, or anything else that needs a database.

In this course, you will learn how to initialize Prisma in a TypeScript Node project, use Prisma Client to create and find records, use Express to create data dynamically, and more!

Build a Backend with Prisma in a TypeScript Node Project

It's tempting to pick up a framework which has preselected flexbox or grid as the layout tool of choice, but it's important to learn when and why to use each method. This leads to slimmer stylesheets which results in better site performance, and less likelihood for "hacks" to make one method do what the other does inherently better. 

Throughout this collection, we will be progressively styling a responsive landing page template while building your knowledge on when to select grid or flexbox for any layout scenario. Spoiler alert: sometimes the best solution is using both!

The specification describes a CSS box model optimized for user interface design. In the flex layout model, the children of a flex container can be laid out in any direction, and can “flex” their sizes, either growing to fill unused space or shrinking to avoid overflowing the parent.

Databases are essential for any full-stack applications, but working with them is traditionally very difficult. Prisma is here to change that. It's a powerful database toolkit that helps us think in data itself - not SQL, not classes, just the data we care about in our apps.

In this series, we will learn how to leverage the power of Prisma to automatically generate a type-safe, autocomplete-ready, and efficient query builder, all based on a simple and easy-to-read schema. We will integrate all this good stuff into a Next.js project to complete a simple social network app.

In the end, you will be able to understand how Prisma works, and confidently start using Prisma in your own project.

Build a full-stack app with Prisma

CSS uses a global namespace for CSS Selectors that can easily result in style conflicts throughout your application when building an application using modern web components. You can avoid this problem by nesting CSS selectors or use a styling convention like BEM but this becomes complicated quickly and won’t scale.

CSS-in-JS avoids these problems entirely by generating unique class names when styles are converted to CSS. This allows you to think about styles on a component level with out worrying about styles defined elsewhere.

In this course, you will learn how to express popular SCSS (Sass) language features using latest JavaScript features. We will convert simple examples from SCSS to CSS-in-JS. As a designer or (S)CSS developer, you should be able to follow without extensive JavaScript knowledge, understanding SCSS is required though. We will not be using any particular CSSinJS libraries. Instead, we will focus on a base knowledge you need later if you use any CSSinJS library.

Copy/pasting the same code is redundant and updating copy/pasted code slows development velocity. Mixins are reusable chunks of code that are included, similar to calling a function, instead of copy/pasted.

Mixins have some nice features:
- Arguments just like functions.
- Arguments can have default values and optional values.
- Named arguments allow us to use optional and default arguments when the mixin is included.
- Variable arguments allow us to have a dynamic number of arguments when the mixin is included.
- The @content directive allow us to add additional styles when the mixin is included.

Updating the same color or metric multiple times is no fun. SCSS variables improve maintainability by allowing one name to represent a value that can be used anywhere. SCSS variables also give us the power of creating our own naming conventions to express the intent of specific values. In this lesson we learn how to use SCSS variables to assign user friendly names to colors/metrics so one value change will update that value in all the right places.

SCSS nesting can produce DRYer code by targeting child elements without having to write the parent class. Nesting up to 3 levels deep can help us understand relationships between styles. Reuse Styles with the SCSS @extend Directive

Writing similar classes with minor variations, like utility classes, can be a pain to write and update. Sometimes just a single character is the only difference between classes and updating the defining parameter means we need to change it for every class name and value. We can write a class one time and the @for directive can write all the minor variations for us. If the similar classes need to be updated, with the help of the @for directive, they only need to be updated once. In this lesson we learn how to leverage the power of the SCSS @for control directive to relieve the pain.

Writing SCSS @functions is similar to writing functions in other programming languages; they can accept arguments and have return statements. Use Standard Built-in SCSS Functions for Common Operations:

Sometimes you'll be looking for a string, but won't know which file it's in; or you'll want to find all usages of it within a directory. Learn how to use grep -r to recursively search all the files in a directory.

Learn how to use find to identify filenames matching specified patterns. We'll use find to identify all .jsx files in a directory, or all test files in a directory.

Learn to use git grep to only search through the tracked files in a git repo. This is especially useful when you want to exclude build artifacts or locally installed dependencies, such as webpack bundles or the node_modules directory. You'll also note that git grep is automatically colorized - we'll see how to get the same coloring effect with grep --color.
