JavaScript® (often shortened to JS) is a lightweight, interpreted, object-oriented language with first-class functions, most known as the scripting language for Web pages, but used in many non-browser environments as well such as node.js or Apache CouchDB. It is a prototype-based, multi-paradigm scripting language that is dynamic, and supports object-oriented, imperative, and functional programming styles.

In this lesson I cover the difference between the Spread and Rest syntax using an array of animals as an example. Spread is used to expand a list of items into an array or object and Rest is often used to help deal with function arguments, but can be used in a variety of circumstances to collect all items remaining excluding the assigned ones.

In this lesson I demonstrate how to use the library MDXC to create and import React components with Markdown. MDXC converts markdown into JavaScript and supports JSX.

Refactor a connected Redux component to use Unstated

Vue (pronounced /vjuː/, like view) is a progressive framework for building user interfaces. Unlike other monolithic frameworks, Vue is designed from the ground up to be incrementally adoptable. The core library is focused on the view layer only, and is very easy to pick up and integrate with other libraries or existing projects. On the other hand, Vue is also perfectly capable of powering sophisticated Single-Page Applications when used in combination with modern tooling and supporting libraries.

In this lesson we'll go through the process of setting up Storybook for Vue. We'll use Vue CLI to create a new Vue application and Storybook CLI to setup some initial stories and config. Storybook can help you develop UI components in an isolated area without running your full application.

In this lesson, we'll use Jest to unit test a Counter component built with Vue. Vue's baked in testing library provides the necessary functionality to render components, invoke methods, and make assertions.

Unit test a Vue component with Jest

In this lesson, we'll use vue-testing-library along with Jest to write some integration tests for a Counter component. What's nice about the vue-testing-library and it's equivalents like dom-testing-library and react-testing-library is that it has several functions to retrieve and assert on elements like a user would when interacting with your application. 

When a user clicks a button, they're not clicking on a CSS class (as some testing libraries suggest), they're clicking on a button labeled "Increment". The user doesn't know about the implementation details, so testing an app this way makes sense. We'll look at several of the getBy* functions vue-testing-library offers to test our component.

Integration test a Vue component with vue-testing-library

In this lesson we'll use mdx-deck to create a slide deck using Markdown and React. We'll look at adding multiple slides, code snippets, and importing React components. We'll also leverage the mdx-deck CLI for our development environment and building for production.
