How to Contribute to an Open Source Project on GitHub

Publishing a JavaScript library for public use requires some extra steps. You need to think about how people will use the library. From end users, to contributors your library now has a variety of people outside of yourself potentially making use of the code that you've released into the wild.

From Github and npm, to releasing beta versions, semantic versioning, code coverage, continuous integration, and providing your library with a solid set of unit tests, there are a ton of things to learn.

The Beginner's Guide to React V1 (2017)

Once you’ve nailed the fundamentals of React, that’s when things get really fun.

This course teaches you advanced patterns in React that you can use to make components that are simple, flexible, and enjoyable to work with. 

You'll start with a simple `<Toggle />` component that you'll progressively refactor to each of the patterns. Throughout the course, you’ll see the benefits of each pattern and how they can be mixed-and-matched to make your components more useful (and simple for everyone who comes across them).

Git is a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency.

How much work would it take for you to move all of your directives and their templates to several different new directories? You'd have to update the templateUrl, script tags, etc., etc. With webpack, this can be trivial. For example, you don't need to worry about loading your templates in the $templateCache ever again. The underpinnings of tools like Babel and ESLint, Abstract Syntax Trees (or ASTs) are not nearly as scary as you might think. This is a collection of all the egghead.io lessons I (Kent) have put out there.

angular-formly provides a very simple API to dynamically change properties of your field (like disabled, hidden, and required) using the powerful expressionProperties property on your field.

angular-formly allows you to default the values of fields for your angular forms using the `defaultValue` property. To default the value of a field, you can either initialize the `model` with the default value, or use this `defaultValue` property on the field configuration.

AngularJS validation can be tough, but angular-formly makes it extremely simple with a single validation API that enables basic and advanced field validation. You can specify a string expression, function that returns true/false, or a function that returns a promise which is resolved/rejected.

Now that we have everything set up with semantic-release and we have a feature commit, let's push that up and watch TravisCI use semantic-release do our library release automatically.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone ran the tests before committing code? With ghooks, you can automatically add a githook when dependencies are installed which will allow you to define common scripts to be run at various points during git actions (like committing). In this lesson, we'll add a githook for running the tests before we commit code to make sure we don't commit anything that breaks the tests.

This lesson will utilize the Istanbul tool to instrument our code for code coverage recording and reporting. We'll use this to make sure that as our library gets new features, we keep track of our coverage and can find places to improve it.

Now that we're keeping track of our coverage, let's upload our reports to a third party service so we can track our stats over time. In this lesson we'll show how easy it is to upload our stats to codecov.io.

Writing the code in the next version of JavaScript can really simplify the development of a library. In this lesson, learn how to create a build which uses the BabelJS transpiler to enable you to write your code using ES6 (aka ES2015) syntax.

By adding ES6 support to our source code, we need to add that same support to our tests so we can consume that synatx. This is quite easy with the `--compilers` flag for `Mocha`.

angular-formly templateOptions bring a great deal of power and flexibility to your forms with angular without sacrificing simplicity in your templates. The templateOptions property allows you to specify some attributes that would normally exist on your `ng-model` like `required`, `maxlength`, and even `ng-click`. It also works great with `expressionProperties`.
