When you see the word “theme” you might think of the visual aspects of a site or code editor where setting an option in one place can change the look everywhere.

Gatsby Themes take this idea to another level by allowing you to change and compose entire pieces of functionality.

In this advanced course, you will iteratively convert a fictitious SaaS website with marketing, eCommerce, blog, and dashboard pages into a set of horizontally composed Gatsby Themes.

After everything's been split up, you will build a deeper understanding of parent/child theme relationships by exploring the blog data model with schema customization APIs that allow us to create multiple child themes with data sourced from different node types.

Listen to Chris Biscardi tell you about this course:

What you'll learn

  • Using yarn workspaces
  • Creating theme starters
  • Dealing with theme conflicts
  • Styling & React Contexts
  • Optimizing gatsby-config
  • Advanced component shadowing techniques
  • Lots more!

What would make this course a 7 for you?

I wish the videos about schema customization support were explained better. It's hard to understand what Chris is doing if you don't already know the topic.

What would make this course a 7 for you?

Great course, would like more details about @childOf and where is it coming from, how to use it, etc. I purchased the paid bundle of the course, hopefully it will be more detailed, still need to watch it. Thank you

How will you use what you learned from this course?

I really liked the content. Workspaces is something I'm keen on understanding more on and seeing the power of configuring graphQL interfaces is really cool. And having a non trivial project is better than another TODO app.

A lot of concepts in here. And a lot of setup.

Not a bad thing, but the course flow is not super punchy.

I think if the story in here could be kept the same but somehow streamline the jumping through boilerplate or concepts it might be have a bit more flow.
