In this course, Chris takes a README-driven approach to build out a Rust CLI that supports content authoring for a digital garden.

Specifically, you'll work through the first command for the CLI, writing files. You start by initializing a new Cargo binary crate through creating the `write` command that allows you to create files (and their contents) to the folder that you set.

Creating a Digital Garden CLI with Rust

Rust is a modern language that is close to the metal. It's got the performance of C, but with a more friendly syntax and community.

It's also memory safe, and ensures your applications are bug free by catching errors at compile time instead of runtime.

These features make Rust a great choice for developing code for embedded systems, web servers, and CLI apps. You can even compile Rust into WebAssembly in order to run it in-browser!

But as the saying goes, "before you learn to run, you must learn to walk".

In this course, you will write your first Rust application.

Starting from “Hello World” you’ll quickly move on to learning about Rust’s types, configuration files, and the `cargo` package manager along with classics like functions, loops, and handling user input.

More Rust-specific concepts like macros and pattern matching will also be introduced.

This course walks you through the steps of creating a News web app using Vue.js and the Nuxt framework. We will learn how to add an Android library to our project and translate it’s Java api to NativeScript. For this lesson, we will look at [Filestack’s Android SDK](https://github.com/filestack/filepicker-android) built with Gradle. Specifically, we will cover how to immediately start working with the library even when a [NativeScript](/q/nativescript) plugin does not exist for it.

Use an Android library in NativeScript for Angular using Java apis

Java has been around a long time and when it comes to Android, you will encounter some structures that may throw you for a loop on how to code against with NativeScript. Let’s examine a few common Java/Android api constructs you may encounter and how to translate them to NativeScript. Learn how to get references to local files in your app using the ‘file-system’ module as well as how to take advantage of NativeScript’s Observable class to send notification events from one class to another. Lastly, look at considerations with Angular’s NgZone when handling your native libraries data events to update component view bindings.

Translate common Java/Android APIs into NativeScript for Angular Android apps

One of the exciting benefits you have with NativeScript is the ability to write native code (Java and Objective C) directly in JavaScript/TypeScript allowing you to create a consistent high level api over top of both underlying iOS Objective C/Swift and Android Java apis. In this lesson, we will look at how to design a consistent api that taps into the appropriate native api’s on the target platforms using underlying native libraries.

Before each page loads, Nuxt supports pre-fetching data to render what you need on the server. This lesson walks you through using Nuxt's `fetch` to load data then save it in the Vuex store.

Building a custom NativeScript XML view component for Android is uniquely different than it’s iOS counterpart because of the Android Context which must be considered. Let’s look at how to properly build a custom view component based on an underlying native view widget. The Vue-CLI helps you to quickly and easily setup new Vue projects. Nuxt.js is a library that helps you build server-rendered Vue.js applications. This lesson shows you how to use the nuxt/starter template with the Vue-CLI to quickly start a new project.

Most applications require state to be shared across the application. In the case of Nuxt, you'll share state across pages. Nuxt integrates easily with Vuex by simply adding JavaScript files in the `store` directory. This lesson walks you through setting up a basic store and using it in your template

Manage Vue.js State with Vuex and Nuxt

You commit changes to state in Vuex using defined `mutations`. You can easily access these state mutations in your template using `mapMutations`. This lesson shows you have to wire together your Vue.js template with your Vuex store using mutations and mapMutations.

You'll notice soon after working with Nuxt that you'll begin to see your styles flash in during each page load. This is due to the development mode of Nuxt where it injects the styles into the page after the initial page render. You can rest assured that when you use `nuxt build`, your styles will render before the page loads.

Because Nuxt renders pages on the server, you should use the `nuxt-link` components to navigate between pages. Each time a page loads, you can check if you're on the client or server and avoid doing unnecessary loading based on how the page was rendered.
