This workshop will start by breaking down the four states in which a file can exist, and we'll build up our mental model of git from there. Then, we'll look at how to move files between those states in different ways.

Once we've developed a new model for how git operates, we'll be able to purposefully get ourselves into some sticky situations, and then gracefully recover from them.

If you can handle git add/commit/push, but not much more - then this workshop is perfect for you.

You can finally get some proper git training, and will never have to worry about losing data or messing up the repo again!

Listen to Chris Achard tell you about this course:

What you'll learn:

  • Change commit messages
  • Add or remove files from a commit
  • How and when to stash changes
  • What a "detached HEAD" is, and how to fix it
  • Remove secrets from a codebase
  • How to rewrite history

What did you like about this course?

Best course on practical Git for everyday uses and also covers some cases that are not that common but is very useful to be aware of them to not have any 'git panic' if things go wrong. This really opened my mind to the real power of what Git can do. 🤩

What did you like about this course?

I like how you explained a fix, and followed it up with a simple, but appropriate example. I also like how they're broken into sections, so if I forget how to fix something, then I can reference this video, and find where the fix would be explained. Thanks!

What did you like about this course?

Very precise and just what we need as a ready reference while in need. Please add, if possible, some examples of rebase as opposed to merge and what method should be followed as best practice.
